Fernando Was Blindsided by a Car but Hasn’t Lost Vision for a Better Life

Meet Fernando

Fernando was born in Mexico and has been in the U.S. for about 30 years. He has one adult son that he hasn’t seen much since he and his wife separated. Over the years, he has worked in restaurants and in a plastics factory. He had lost his job and had been homeless for a while. He was staying at a homeless shelter where he helped around the facility in exchange for room and board.

The Harbor Care Journey

One night, Fernando went out for a walk and was hit by a car from behind and was paralyzed from the waist down. After many months in the hospital, he came to Harbor Care to continue his recuperation. He was gaining more independence and felt like this was the best next step to take in his recovery.

“Harbor Care was the best decision I made. They drove me to all my therapy appointments and as a result, I have gained more strength and am able to stand on my own two feet,” said Fernando.

“I don’t have to worry about where I will lay my head or where my next meal will come from. I am very grateful this place,” says Fernando with a smile on his face.

The Journey Home

Fernando is motivated to walk again and get back to work. He will be moving to a transitional living center and continue his physical therapy.
