Michael Recovers from Fall and Finds His Footing at Harbor Care
Meet Michael
Michael grew up in Watts and graduated from Jordan High School. He attended Southwest Community College and worked in security and in warehouses. He had two kids, but one had passed away. He never recovered from the loss of his child. Michael has shuffled between the streets and prison and hasn’t had his own apartment since 2002.
The Harbor Care Journey
Michael had a sudden drop in blood pressure and fell and hit his head. All he remembers is waking up in the hospital. The hospital sent him to Harbor Care to recover. Michael had stayed in a recuperative care facility once before coming to Harbor Care. “This place is way better,” says Michael.
“I love it here. I get help with my medications. You get me to my doctor’s appointments. You all talk to people here. You really care about me,” says Michael holding back tears.
The Journey Home
Michael is getting stronger, getting his balance back, and learning how to walk again.
Harbor Care’s case managers have been helping Michael get his SSI benefits and connected to supportive housing. Michael is looking forward to leaving the streets for good and making a full recovery.
